Château Siaurac is one of the more unusual wines we offer at Laguna Cellar.  While not a classified growth, this hidden gem of a property was previously owned by the famed First Growth Estate, Château Latour.  In October 2020, Château Siaurac was aquired by Artémis and Suravenir, a group that owns the majority stake of Château Calon Segur.  The property is managed by Vincent Millet, the general manager of the star Third Growth Property, and the trajectory of Château Siaurac is an exciting one without a doubt.  Due to numerous wine critics' ratings rising above 90 points from recent vintages, Château Siaurac is decidedly a property to watch.  The retail price is still under $30, its quality to price ratio is unbeatable.

Château Siaurac is a 46-hectare property located in the commune of Néac – a continuation of the famous Pomerol plateau.  It is the largest estate within Néac, and the vines are planted in one continuous plot. Though Pomerol receives more fanfare and critical acclaim, many argue the heavily graveled clay terroir of Néac is just as good.  There are a lot of winemakers doing amazing things here and the fact that this Right Bank commune is more obscure very much serves to the advantage of bargain hunters.

Perhaps one of the more important reasons why the wines of Château Siaurac are so amazing is because the team is fortunate enough to have Pénélope Godefroy as the technical director. Before coming over to manage Siaurac, Pénélope Godefroy was the oenologist at Château Latour.  Château Latour had so much confidence in the potential of Siaurac, it bought the property and sent its young star oenologist there to do a make-over.

It was Pénélope who championed the transition of the First Growth property over to biodynamic viticulture, and she brings the same passion and experience to Château Siaurac. Speaking of terroir, Pénélope firmly believes in the potential of the terroir at Château Siaurac.  The estate has practiced sustainable agriculture and Biodynamic inspired techniques for a very long time.  They completely stopped chemical weeding in 2015 in addition to planting cover crops and using beehives near the vines to help with pollination.

Château Siaurac has Organic aspirations for the future, and it’s clear Pénélope’s influence on the estate is making critics take notice.

Their Merlot-based wines have smaller percentages of Cabernet Franc and just a kiss of Malbec, lending them an incredibly friendly, charming and easy-drinking quality.  For value-oriented wine lovers who enjoy approachable wines with great structure – look no further than Château Siaurac.

Tasting Notes

"The 2015 Siaurac has long been making some "nifty" Lalande-de-Pomerol and this is well worth investigating. It has a sensual, fruit-forward bouquet with plenty of black cherry and cassis fruit that does not overpower. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin. There is a couple of layers of new oak to be absorbed, but there is sufficient fruit to do that and it finished with attractive truffle and white pepper notes that offer fine salinity."- Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate (4/27/2016, Issue 224); Rating: 90-92

Lalande-de-Pomerol is a appellation d’origine contrôlée for red wines located in Bordeaux on the Right Bank of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, northeast of the famous Pomerol appellation.

This appellation was created in 1936 and spans 1100 hectares and covers two villages : Lalande-de-Pomerol and Néac. This appellation benefits from a diverse terroir with soils composed of gravel, clay and sand, which play a crucial role in defining the character of the wines.

Lalande-de-Pomerol wines are distinguished by their elegance and complexity, featuring nuances of ripe fruits and spices. They benefit from a temperate climate, influenced by the proximity of the Dordogne river which ensures ideal conditions for viticulture.

Historically, this appellation has gained recognition through its viticultural expertise. The winemakers of Lalande-de-Pomerol are committed to environmentally friendly practices. Lalande-de-Pomerol are appreciated for their excellent quality and for their prices. They offer an accessible alternative to the prestigious wines of Pomerol.

The wines of the Lalande de Pomerol appellation are mainly composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc with a 80/20 repartition 80% of Merlot and 20% of Cabernet Franc. Some small producers add Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.

This appellation has several renowned estates such as : Château Siaurac, Château Les Cruzelles, Château des Annereaux, La Chenade, Château Belles-Graves, Château La Fleur de Bouard, Château de Chambrun and Château Moncets.

Footnotes on Futures, Pre-Arrivals, and potential US Tariffs:

1. On June 15, 2021, the US and the EU agreed to suspend tariffs resulting from the Boeing-Airbus aircraft trade disputes. The Trump Administration has announced plans to impose new tariffs on global trade. Until further notice, the price of Futures and Pre-Arrivals offered on this site does NOT include any tariffs. Additional charges may apply at the time of delivery.

2. Futures are expected to be available for delivery two years after the sales (e.g., the 2022 vintage, sold in 2023, will be delivered in 2025 mostly, or 2026 if the producer ages the wine longer).

3. Pre-Arrivals are items currently stored in our Bordeaux cellar or in transit from France to the US. It usually takes 1-6 months for Pre-Arrivals to become available for delivery, depending on the stage of the import process.

4. Regarding futures and pre-arrivals, we cannot guarantee specific delivery dates, which factors beyond our control may impact. However, we will notify you once your wine arrives in our cellar.

5. While a buyer of Bordeaux wine futures locks in an allocation of the specified items, the final delivery of the purchased items from France to the US may be impacted by intervening and unforeseeable events. Despite our due diligence, additional costs or delays may be caused by such intervening and unforeseen events and "an irresistible, superhuman cause, or by the act of public enemies of the state of California or the United States."  In such circumstances, if a buyer does not accept unforeseeable costs or delays, the sole and exclusive remedy is a cancellation of the futures order concerned and a refund of the original purchase price. We are NOT liable for any lost profits on a canceled order.
