Special Announcement

2015 Château Canon La Gaffelière was ranked #2 on the 2018 Top 10 List by Wine Spectator magazine, after its 2014 vintage was ranked #7 on the 2017 Top 10 List by the same magazine.

The winemaker, Comte Stephan von Neipperg, also produces 3 other highly rated wines, 2 of which we have in stock, and the third one is available as 2017 futures. These are:

Clos de L'Oratoire 2015 (St-Emilion Grand Cru, $43.95)
Château d'Aiguilhe 2015 (Côte de Bordeaux Castillion, $26.95), and
Château La Mondotte 2017 futures (St-Emilion Grand Cru, $168.95).

We highly recommend all of M. von Neipperg's wines as they are equally well-made, approachable when young, yet with the potential to cellar for many years.

Tasting Notes

"The 2015 Canon la Gaffeliere is a blend of 55% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Franc and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon picked between 19 September and 6 October at 37 hl/ha and matured in 55% new oak barrels. It has another "cool" bouquet, a common thread among Comte Stephan Von Neipperg's 2015s - very restrained at first, nicely focused and gradually revealing undergrowth and even a subtle charcoal scent (probably from the Cabernet Sauvignon). The palate is medium-bodied with black fruit laced with graphite and cedar, the Cabernet brothers really defining the character of this Saint Emilion and edging it towards say, more Figeac in style. This is a fascinating 2015, more cerebral than previous vintages that I have tasted over the years." - Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (4/27/2016, Issue 224), Ratings: 94, Drink: 2020-2045

Effective October 18, 2019, the US Trade Representative's Office imposed a new 25% value-added tax (i.e., import tariffs) on a wide range of European products (including French wine, Italian cheese and single malt Scotch whisky) to penalize EU subsidies for Airbus.  EU has made counter-claims agains the US subsidies for Boeing.  A ruling by WTO on EU's counter-claims is expected in the spring of 2020.

For any Futures (en primeur) and Pre-Arrival items, our current prices are shown before taxes and tariffs.  Prior to shipment, we may have to collect any tariffs levied by the US government at the time. Tariffs will be based on the date of importation and the rate of US tariffs in place at the time.  Current rules exempt wines with alcohol content above 14.5% from the newly imposed 25% tariffs. We will offer free storage in our professional wine cellar in Bordeaux in the event of any delay in importation caused by the uncertainties created by tariffs.

If you believe these tariffs are NOT in the best interest of US consumers like yourself, please consider writing to your congressional representatives to let them hear your voice.  You can find out how to contact your representatives here using this directory provided by the US Congress.
