Almaviva 2016

James Suckling is not a strange name to wine enthusiasts.  He was the senior editor of Wine Spectator magazine for years, and made a name as a wine critic who gives out enthusiastic ratings.  After starting some of Wine Spectator's well-known practices such as the annual listing of Top 100 Wines, he left to start his namesake wine review web site.  In 2018, he awarded 100 points perfect score to Almaviva 2015, a wine produced by the Bordeaux heavyweight Château Mouton Rothschild.  At the time, Almaviva was not a household name among the wine drinking public.  Because James Suckling is based in Hong Kong and has a wide following among the Asian wine consumers, Almaviva 2015 was a top choice for Asian buyers in the last two years.

Not to be outdone by its former star writer, or, more likely, not ignoring the true quality of Almaviva and the terroir of Maipo Valley of Chile that won over the heart of the late Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Wine Spectator announced its #10 choice of Top 10 Wines of 2019 is Almaviva 2016.

We recommend it whole-heartedly.
